Annick Schauss was pushing a baby stroller in Parc Municipal along with dozens of other new parents, wanting to take a normal, cool, moist breeze when they have realized that the air is dry and hot. No humidity because of the rain, no cold wind in their face. But the scariest part just happened when they exited the park and left the shadow of the trees behind.

“It is worth worrying about,” Annick said after the sunshine “slapped her in the face” in her words. But the baby, 1-year-old Nancy, needed air and besides, she said, nobody had warned against going outside.

Severine, another mother from the park, held a different view: That if there really was something to worry about, people would know. “They would have informed us to be prepared,” she said, despite the official silence on details of the highly unusual sunshine and really suspicious clear sky above Luxembourg on Wednesday morning. “Probably it was a couple of hours anomaly because of the global warming and the normal heavy rain showers and our loved dark sky will come back any minute.”

Just to be prudent we have contacted the government and they offer a few technical details to assess safety for communities who are exposed to the risk of the phenomenal sunshine.

“There is no reason for any concern.”, Fernand Reuter the Minister of Health stated, “The current UV radiation and vitamin D level is within normal limits. Although, if someone experiences any of the following symptoms then it is better to consult a General Practitioner:

  1. A sudden surge of happiness / Decreasing the sense of depression
  2. A serious lack of fatigue
  3. Warm caressing sensation on the skin

As a precaution, it is better to stay in the apartment or office during daylight hours. However, if you have to go outside, use very protective sunscreen and try to think that everything will soon return to the old gray everyday and business as usual. So far we are not aware of any victims of vitamin D overdose”.

As mentioned above, currently there is nothing to worry about, though it is better to be prepared. If the situation takes longer than expected we will immediately inform our readers.
